McDonnell Wants ABC Store Privatization Money to Go Into Road Maintenance
On WTOP's ask the Governor program Governor Bob McDonnell reiterated his plan to privatize Virginia's ABC stores, saying that the privatization of the stores is win-win for taxpayers. It gets the state government out of the liquor business, which McDonnell pointed out is not a core function of Government, and it creates a financial windfall, which will produce money to fund other projects. McDonnell said, "Licensing the stores will generate a lot of money - which we estimate could be $300 to 500 million - and put it into road maintenance." The Governor wants to put 100 percent of the windfall money into road maintenance.
