Have Democrats Given Up on Perriello?

Over the weekend the influential liberal newspaper the New York Times ran a story which raised the prospect that the DCCC may give up on fifth district Democrat Tom Perriello sooner rather than later. It suggests that national Democrats feel that the coming political tidal wave could force the party to adopt a triage strategy. The triage strategy goes like this; if Perriello is a certain loser then why pump money into his race? Instead give up on certain losers like Perriello, and pump money into safer races, to preserve as many seats as possible.
However, in an effort to correct the impression that they have given up on Perrello today the DCCC produced a poll showing Perriello is still in the race.
The DCCC released a survey Tuesday by Global Strategy Group showing Hurt leading Perriello in the 5th district, 44 percent to 42 percent, well within the poll's 4.9 percent margin of error. Independent candidate Jeffrey Clark drew 6 percent.

You know times are tough for Democrats when they take comfort in a poll, which they produced, which shows their incumbent below 50% and behind - oh, excuse me within the margin of error.
