Piers Morgan Lies About Virginia

I like to think that my ancestors fought in the American Revolution so that they wouldn’t be ruled by Piers Morgan’s ancestors. Morgan who poses as a tabloid reporter, when in realty he is a anti Second Amendment zealot, has decided to advocate his anti Second Amendment crusade on his rarely watch TV show.

Well, in an effort to claim gun ownership increases murder rates Morgan claimed that Virginia led the nation in Murder in 2009. Odd, he picked that year to study. Now that would have been true if 25 states had left the Union in 2008. In fact Virginia ranked 26th among the states in murder, with a rate 12 percent lower than the national rate.

Virginia's more recent figures which Morgan is not interested in are even more impressive. According to the FBI's 2011 crime report, from 2010 to 2011 Virginia's murder rate dropped 20 percent, to 29th in the nation, 21 percent below the national rate. As the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported last year, "Gun-related violent crime in Virginia has dropped steadily over the past six years as the sale of firearms has soared to a new record. . . . The total number of firearms purchased in Virginia increased 73 percent from 2006 to 2011. . . . But the total number of gun-related violent crimes fell 24 percent over that period."

Ironically Morgan uses our hard won First Amendment to chip away at our second Amendment rights. He likes earning the American dollar, just not all our rights, or as the Brits would say our privileges.

Guns don’t cause crime anymore than spoons cause obesity.
