Well, Republican John Whitbeck ran an excellent campaign, but sadly, he won't be joining the fight in the Virginia state senate. The results from tonight's special state senate election to replace Democrat Mark herring will remain in Democrat hands. According to the state board of elections:
Democrat Jennifer Wexton 52.7%
Republican John Whitbeck 37.59%
Independent Joe May 9.78%
If Republican Joe May hope to play spoiler it looks like that failed, the margin was greater than his share of the vote.
