Speaker Howell sets date for special elections in House Districts 48 and 90

The following is a statement from the office of Speaker William Howell:

"Virginia House of Delegates Speaker William J. Howell (R-Stafford) has set Tuesday, August 19, 2014 as the date for special elections in House Districts 48 and 90, vacated by former Delegates Bob Brink and Algie Howell, respectively. This is the same date Senator Chuck Colgan chose for the special election in Senate District 38.

“As I said Friday, the House of Delegates will miss both Bob and Algie and we wish them the well as they move on from this distinguished body," said Speaker Howell. "With their retirements, it is imperative that we ensure the citizens of their districts representation in the General Assembly. Accordingly, I have set Tuesday, August 19, 2014 as the date for these special elections.”

The writs of election were issued today. Pursuant to § 24.2-507 and § 24.2-510 of the Code of Virginia, the filing deadline for these elections is Monday, July 7, 2014 at 5 p.m. All questions should be directed to the Virginia State Board of Elections at 1-800-552-9745. Ask for “special election information.”
