Gilmore Wins Montgomery County MD GOP Presidential Straw Poll

The media missed this one. On Saturday Former Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore, Chairman of GrowthPAC, won a Presidential straw poll sponsored by the Montgomery County Republican Party.

Others on the ballot included Gov. Scott Walker, Sen. Marco Rubio and former Maryland Gov. Robert Ehrlich. Earlier this week, Gov. Gilmore made national headlines when he criticized the anti-Christian remarks made by President Obama at the National Prayer Breakfast.

“We need a President who believes in America. President Obama does not believe that America is a force for good in the world. I do. We need a President who will work to grow our economy because we need to ensure that our children and grandchildren inherit as rich and prosperous and secure a nation as we did. They deserve no less. “Specifically, we need to unify all business income, whether corporate or small business, into a single, 15% tax rate. We need to reduce individual tax rates to three simple, low brackets of 25%, 25% and 10%. Finally, we need to permanently eliminate the Death Tax, so you can pass on your family farms and other small businesses to your children without being taxed a second time.

“We need a president who is equipped and willing to deal with our challenges abroad. The world is a more dangerous place than when Barack Obama took office. We need a president who will call terrorism for what it is and won’t ban the words jihad and radical Islam from our national conversation,” said Gov. Gilmore.

Jim Gilmore served as the 68th Governor of Virginia from 1998-2002. Gov. Gilmore currently serves as President & CEO of the Free Congress Foundation. From 1999-2003, he chaired the Congressional Advisory Panel to Assess Domestic Capabilities for Terrorism Involving Weapons of Mass Destruction. He also served as Chairman of the Republican National Committee from 2001-02.

Growth PAC was created to elect Conservatives across the country that share Gov. Gilmore’s strong belief in pro-growth economic policies that create jobs, increase wages and provide opportunity for all Americans. Growth PAC is dedicated to electing Conservatives who will invest in job creation and provide tax relief for business, individuals and middle-income families.
