It seems that there is some opposition brewing to Governor McDonnell's privatization plan from his traditional allies. According to the Richmond Times Dispatch, The Virginia Assembly of Independent Baptists, the Virginia Interfaith Center and the Religious Herald, the newspaper of the Baptist General Association of Virginia, are lining up to oppose private liquor sales. These groups say they are worried about the social ramification of letting private retailers sell liquor.
With all do respect, I still don't see how privatization will lead to increased drunk driving, spousal abuse, increased lost work time, and all other ills that opponents to privatization claim.
