Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) has officially called two special elections for Jan. 11 so voters in two districts can elect replacements for state Sen. Robert Hurt and Del. Morgan Griffith. Hurt and Griffith were elected to Congress earlier this month.
In a statement the Governor said,
"In order to ensure that the citizens of these districts have full representation in the Virginia General Assembly session that is to convene on January 12, 2011, it is my intention to call for the special elections to be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2011,''
I am predicting Republicans retain both seats.
